Biography
Outspoken league commentator was an underrated forward and talented goal-kicker. A product of Wollongong Wests (the same club that produced Bob Fulton) Peters came from Goulburn to play for P’matta in the late 1960s. Joining Fulton at Manly he matured late in his career and played in the club's 1973 grand final win over Cronulla. A tough defender and a fine ball-player Peters retired in 1974 to concentrate on his journalistic career. In the early 1980s he linked with controversial grand final referee Greg Hartley at Radio 2GB and, as 'Zorba and Hollywood', the pair dominated the airwaves with their distinctive call of the game. Their move to racing station 2KY saw them lose their hold on the number one position before the pair split at the end of 1992. Peters was always uncompromising in his views and was one of the few journalists to take a stand against the NSWRL's controversial player draft system in 1991. After joining the marketing team at Manly he reunited with Hartley at 2GB for a brief period in 1995 and again with 2KY in 2001.
